Little Grasshoppers Early Learning Centres are some of the Mornington Peninsula’s most experienced childcare and kindergarten operators, with over 32 years of experience. A large number of families from the Somerville area use our facilities. We are constantly expanding and welcome more households from Somerville and surrounds to use our premier Early Learning service.
Somerville Childcare Centre and Facilities
Our Childcare Centre on Eramosa Road, Somerville, features an innovative, spacious design with room for 90 children per day across our nursery, toddlers, 3-year-old and 4-year-old kindergarten programs. Several separate, age-centric playgrounds feature vegetable gardens, forts and huge shaded areas, ensuring multiple opportunities for outdoor sensory play.
Our early learning centre in Somerville offers many innovative play-based programs, including Community Explore and Intergenerational Connections. Like all centres in our group, our Somerville daycare has a full-time cook who serves nutritious meals five days per week.

Little Grasshoppers Early Learning Centres are not only in Somerville. Our childcare and kindergarten group has grown to include other suburbs on the Mornington Peninsula. We have two centres in Mornington – Main St and Parwan Cres, one at The Coolstores in Moorooduc, and our brand-new, state-of-the-art Mt Eliza centre, opening in late 2023.

Mornington Childcare History – Little Grasshoppers ELC
Little Grasshoppers Early Learning Centres have significant history on the Mornington Peninsula, having been supporting families of little ones for 32 years. Owner Kaye Ellis started the business with a vision to engender warmth and communication between staff, families, and children. At Little Grasshoppers, we believe we have achieved that vision.
Today, our business has grown to include four locations around Somerville. The daycare has become an industry-leading early-learning group that helps children develop practical skills, emotional intelligence, and critical thinking abilities that give your child the head start to educational success later in life.
Keeping it in the family, Kaye’s two sons, Trent and Matt, are now at the helm, along with several long-serving team members. Many of these staff members have entrusted us with their own children’s early education, and in fact, some of our first attending children are now educators in our group! We give early childhood education a family touch and guarantee our continuity of service.

While we love welcoming new children to our group, we try to keep classes small enough so that each child receives individual care and attention.
